First Steps Logo

This Balloon mural was approximately 16 feet long by 6 feet tall.  It is the logo for a preschool educational program of the state of South Carolina in the USA.  The mural was the backdrop for an awards program in Columbia South Carolina in December of 2000 featuring the governor of the state.  Graham and Mary Queen Rouse of Air Apparent Special Events designed and built this and other decorations for the event.

The Mural was constructed of aproximately 2000 five inch latex balloons and a new Rouse Matrix System expandable framework named "ROSA".  ROSA has a pattern of openings for balloons made up of large octagons and small squares.  "ROSA" in an acronym for "Rouse Octagon Square Apertures".  Notice the relief effect of the red, yellow and blue blocks in the logo.
