THEY BUILD THEM BIG IN TEXAS

Thirty foot Rouse Matrix Hearts

Rouse International "Balloon Decorating Ideas" logoTHEY BUILD THEM BIG IN TEXAS

Everything went well for two of these 30′ balloon hearts until we dragged one of them onto the ice to prepare it for lifting. The cold of the ice shrank the foil balloons. We thought they would all fall out, but the adhesive coating we had sprayed on the custom designed Rouse Matrix held the balloons in place.

The balloons warmed quickly once we got them up in the air. They expanded again to full size and made a great Valentine display for Balloon Masters (our customer) and the shopping mall (Balloon Masters’ customer).

WICKED WITCH FLIES HIGH TOWARD HALLOWEEN

(I apologize for the misinformation earlier. I pulled the earlier info from a July 2013 archive of mine that referenced a post that has since been removed; I suppose because it was incorrect.)

This project uses a square grid and drops down from 6″ to 3″ squares to get more detail in the middle.

Since this was done “South Of The Border” it probably uses the stiff GRIDZ Snap Pak grids.

You can create the same look using the RMS, Expand-And-Load, GRIDZ Soft Pak balloon frames. You may order the Soft-Pak version online at http://bvsmall.com/gridz-store.

(The videos are shown below near the end of this article.)

(5)  Trim the extra Matrix framework from around your balloon design with scissors. (and, you are done.)

USE A PRE-CUT FRAME FOR YOUR WITCH HAT

If you like the 5′ size and the shape of the Witch Hat in the photo at the top of this article then you can save yourself a good deal of work by simply purchasing the pre-cut frame online at http://www.bvsmall.com/rms-witch-hat-5 .  Just Expand-And-Load™ the Witch Hat balloon frame with balloons. You may use the same color pattern or change it to suit your taste or to match the color scheme of your event. Either way you do not have to do all the graph paper planning or trimming of the frame after the balloons are loaded.

Whether you design your own hat shape or purchase one ready to Expand-And-Load™ you will get the best results from one of the four balloon techniques demonstrated below. Your choice of technique will also affect the type and number of balloons you will need and the number of balloon frames required.

MOONSTRUCK BAT MadeWithBalloons™

framed illustration of "Bat Over The Moon" graphic MadeWithBalloons™ and Rouse Matrix Expand-And-Load™ balloon grid frame Bnners

Rouse International "Balloon Decorating Ideas" logoBATTY BALLOON DECORATING IDEA FOR HALLOWEEN.

.

Here is a simple way to build the “Moonstruck Bat” design above. It is MadeWithBalloons™ and Rouse Matrix™ Banner balloon frames.

.

The three minute video immediately below gives you an overview of working with RMS™ Banners and with the Rouse patented “SIMPLE” technique:

This technique of loading connected balloons in adjacent openings is a Rouse Original Technique and is patented in the USA for use exclusively with Rouse Matrix™ frames. It has advantages over loading balloons in singles:

  • Balloons are tied two at once.
  • Pick up and handle two balloons at once.
  • Load one balloon and the second is right there for loading next.
  • Each balloon acts as an anchor helping to hold the other in place

THE DESIGN

The illustration below shows the “Bat Over The Moon” design laid out on RMS™ Banner graph paper. You may download the same graph paper for planning designs of your own from

SIMPLE-BAT-LAYOUT-01-horiz-purple .

LAYOUT FOR LOADING BALLOONS

The illustration below breaks the design into rows and then into pairs of balloons. Since there are an odd number of balloons in each horizontal row, there is a single balloon at the left end of each row. Combine the single balloon in one row with a single from the adjacent row. Examples are wrapped in red ovals in the illustration below. There is just one single balloon to be loaded by itself in the bottom left hand corner. WithBalloons™ and Rouse Matrix™ of bat flying across moon separated into pairs of balloons

BALLOON COLORS

We have chosen these colors, but you may choose your own.

  • 158 Purple balloons (5″-6″)
  • 129 Light Blue balloons (5″-6″)
  • 99 Yellow balloons (5″-6″)
  • 97 Black balloons (5″-6″)
  • 2 Red balloons (5″-6″) for eyes

.

PREPARE BALLOONS IN PAIRS

  • Inflate, size & tie balloons in pairs according to the layout above (or your own revised layout if you like) and the instructions below.
  • Inflate and size balloons to 4" after squeezing them .Tie them in pairs to match your plan.
  • Inflate and size balloons to 4″ after squeezing them .Tie them in pairs to match your plan.
  • Most balloons are not spheres, but are longer from the inflation neck to the opposite end of the balloon. Squeezing balloons as shown above before measuring them helps to get more accurate sizing.

Rouse Matrix™ Banners

  • (2) Packages of RMS™’ Banner Expand-And-Load™ panels (2 panels to a package). Connect 4 of the RMS™ Banner′ panels. Connect two side by side in a horizontal line and then two more directly above them into a group of four. Rotate them 90 degrees clockwise and expand to the right into a square shape.
  • Immediately below is a video that demonstrates the steps from taking the Banner Matrix out of the packages right through setting them up and ready to load balloons.

.

STAND UP YOUR DISPLAY

Standard installation works well. On this design we recommend using at least two base plates with vertical poles or pipes behind the display. Use them on the back side of the display. Use one near each end.

You may use cable ties (zip ties / electrical ties), elastic bands or other lines to tie around the vertical element and the Matrix straps between balloons. We recommend at least three connections on each vertical. Use at least one near the top and bottom and at least one in the middle.

Tighten the connection until balloons are snug against the vertical element. If you tighten it too much you will force balloons out of the Matrix. .

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES FOR HALLOWEEN

Balloon Cookie Spider for Halloween

Rouse International "Balloon Decorating Ideas" logoOur grandchildren’s Spider Cookies provided inspiration for a cute easy Halloween balloon decoration.

Bevis family of creative cookie lovers.

.

.

Actually, the first inspiration for this balloon decorating idea came from the newspaper. The kids saw a plate of Spider Cookies in an ad. Well, of course, that did it. The decision to make some of the Spider Cookies was a done deal.

.

.

.Here’s the recipe:

Halloween Spider Cookie ingredients; inspiration for RMS™ Expand and Load Spider

Photo of ingredients for the cookie spiderOreo type cookies
Frosting (We used the can kind)
Licorice (We used pretzels)
Chocolate chips, red hots or ?

(1)  Open the cookies and add some icing to one side of each.

(2)  Add some licorice for the legs. (we used pretzel sticks).

(3)  “Paste” the legs in the frosting. We used pretzels because we had them on hand and the children like them, but the licorice would be more like balloons.

(4)  Add some more frosting and put the second cookie back on top.

(5)  Add two little dabs of frosting on the top cookie for the eye “sockets”.

(6)  Stick a chocolate chip (or red hot or ?) in each socket for the eyes.

Photo of cookie spiderThat’s it!
Complete Cookie Spider used for inspiration for RMS Expand and Load “Cookie” Spider with RMS Circles and 260’s

————————————————————————————————————-

When we were making the Spider Cookies it occurred to me that we could easily compliment these simple cutie Spider Cookies with a simple cutie Balloon Spider made along the same lines.

Cookie Spider MadeWithBalloons™ and RMS™ Expand-And-Load balloon grid framesRouseCIPE:
2 RMS Circle shapes (1 Pkg.) (2′ diameter circles)
37 Doublets 5″ balloons, maybe black?
8 Black 260’s
2 Red 5″

(1)  Make up the RMS Circles using the RMS Double Layer Technique. (See the video below.)

(2)  Inflate the 260’s and add the legs by stuffing them in between the two layers of the RMS Circle frameworks. (Make super easy legs with no twists or you can add some twists if you want. Our front left leg is not twisted.)

(3)  Same with the eyes. Just inflate some red 5″ balloons and tie them into the RMS Circle framework for easy eyes. Or, use the red and maybe black 5″, maybe throw in a 160, to make some wonderful “Twister” eyes.

(4)  Do a little or a lot – whatever works for you, your family and friends. I figure the children can make the Spider Cookes AND the Balloon Spider. HAVE FUN! We certainly did. Send pics. You know how much we love pics.

————————————————————————————————————–

The Cookie Spider inspiration has reminded me that there is inspiration all around us. It doesn’t have to be this big huge deal. More often than not, simple inspiration tends to be wonderful and useful. Look around. What inspires you?

————————————————————————————————————–

Here is a short (3 minutes) video refresher on the RouseAPP™ double layer STRONG technique used to make the body of the balloon spider:

BEWITCHING MOON FOR HALLOWEEN MadeWithBalloons™

Rouse Matrix Systems Expand-And-Load balloon grid frames and balloons used to make picture of witch flying over the moonHOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN

Rouse International "Balloon Decorating Ideas" logoCHOOSE YOUR SCALE

This Halloween design can be built in many different sizes. The 8′ by 8′ size is likely to be the most popular. We use this version for our RouseCIPIES™ below. It will fit most rooms, will show off well from a distance and yet is small enough to fit easily, with a little bending or folding, through most standard doorways That makes it easier to build off site and bring it in just before your event. It takes five  packages of RMS™ Banners and balloons inflated 4″ in diameter.

Scale it up with Rouse Matrix™ Builders and balloons inflated 8″ in diameter. It takes ten packages of Builders to build this design 16′ by 16′.  You can go larger with RMS Super Builders.

Scale it down to much smaller sizes with RMS Mini-Matrix and bubbles made from twisted long balloons like # 260 and #350 balloons.

Check out options for Expand-And-Load™ balloon frames at Ballooniverse Mall online at http://bvsmall.com/rmsstore.

  • (5) Packages of RMS™’ Banner Expand-And-Load™ panels (2 panels to a package). Connect 9 of the RMS™ Banner′ panels. Connect three side by side in a horizontal line and then two more rows of three directly above them into a group of nine.
  • Be sure that the logo “R” is in the upper left hand corner of each panel. Stretch open the Matrix in sections according to printed instructions that come with the Matrix. If fully expanded, it would look like the illustration below.
  • For loading of balloons, however, we recommend that you rotate the Matrix 90 degrees counter clockwise. This will make it easier to load balloons in straight, horizontal lines.

Illustration of assembly and loading pattern of balloons for the RMS Witch flying over the moon balloon graphic

Assemble 9 RMS™ Banner panels in three rows of three panels with the logo “R” in the upper left hand corner of each panel. Expand Matrix to hold balloons.

  • For our original venue the 8′ by 8′ size fit nicely.  That meant that we cut away the extra Matrix material with scissors. You may prefer to use the full, approximately 9′ by 9′ size of the 9 RMS Banner Panels

(3) LAYOUT FOR LOADING BALLOONS

We rotated this design 90 degrees counterclockwise before spreading it out into rows and then into pairs. Every other row has an odd number, so there is a single balloon at the left end of those rows.

This orientation produces straight, horizontal rows and makes it easier to load balloons.

SCAREDY CAT MadeWithBalloons™

SCAREDY CAT MadeWithBalloons™

Rouse International "Balloon Decorating Ideas" logoThis is a 20′ wall MadeWithBalloons™and Rouse Matrix™ Builders. It looks like a lot of fun for Halloween today. It was also fun when it was first built in Spain in 2008.

Here are some notes on how it was done and techniques you can use to build similar displays of your own.

Students at this RouseABOUT™ Graphics Seminar in Madrid used the Rouse patented “FAST” (“Speed Graphics”) technique to load strings of double-ended balloons into connected Rouse Matrix™ Builders to form the pumpkin wall.

"Cat & Pumpkin Wall" construction MadeWithBalloons™ and Rouse Matrix™ Expand-And-Load™, JustRouseIt™ balloon framesOur black scaredy cat was made with smaller balloons inflated to 4″ in diameter and loaded into RMS™ Banners in a cat shape. Scissors were used to cut around the cat to eliminate the extra Matrix. The cat was used as an overlay on top of the wall.

"FAST" illustration / icon for RE-A-L™ Balloon Art techniques with Rouse Matrix™ Expand-And-Load Balloon Frames

WORLD RECORD DEMONSTRATION

This short (81 seconds) video demonstrates just how fast this Rouse “Speed Graphics” technique can be.

A CLOSER LOOK

This 2.5 minute video gives you a closer look at just how this “FAST” technique works whether you are building a design for Halloween, Christmas, New Year, etc. With a little practice you can double or quadruple your balloon loading speed. Just be sure to use official Rouse Matrix™ Expand-And-Load™ balloon frames.

This technique is patented and requires a special license for use with other balloon frames. Contact Graham Rouse at gmr@rousetech.com for a license for frames other than RMS™.

    http://www.rouseinternational.com/downloads/pdf/MP-BLDR-G4-H-50A-11L-GRAPH.pdf
  • Sketch out your design.
  • Order your RMS™ Builder Expand-And-Load™ balloon frames
    http://www.bvsmall.com/builder
  • Get your double-ended balloons (like Quick Link Balloons™ or Link-O-Loons™)
  • Review the instructions that come with the Rouse Matrix, but also review the videos above. The printed instructions that come with the Matrix do not yet (September 2014) include the Speed Graphics technique.
  • Build your design. (And, be sure to come back here to share your work.)
